My Head is Spinning

I leave for Alaska in 9 days, have 6 days of school left, have to pack up my classroom in 8 days, have an interview in 4 days, have field day in 6 days, and have 8 days to pack. My head is starting to spin, but I have also decided to add two community outreach projects before I go, possibly appear on the news, and have an article written about me in the local newspaper. It is safe to say that yes I am busy, but I am also loving everything that I get to do! On Saturday I will be at local coffee shop (Coffee Times Coffee House) talking to customers using this display...

    The Display Before
This is the display before I am done.

The display could use some work... but that is what Friday nights are for! Besides allowing me to talk to customers, Coffee Times is also providing me with a pound of coffee to take on my trip. They want me to take pictures of me (and the team) drinking coffee all over Greenland and send it to them. They are then going to post these pictures on their website.

On Sunday I am going to appear at Joseph Beth, a local bookshop, to share information about Polar Science. I am going to set up my display, but I am also going to have hands on activities. Make sure you keep reading my future journals so that you can see pictures from both of these events.

Here are some pictures of some of my community outreach tools that I have had made.

The coffee shop inside of Joseph Beth is also working on designing and naming a coffee drink after my expedition. They are also going to place these cool coffee sleeves on their drinks.

Finally, I have been busy working with my students, now that testing is over. Yesterday, I had my students make postcards of what they think Greenland looks like. They drew the pictures on the front of the postcards and I am going to mail them back to the students once I am in Greenland so that they have official Greenland postage. Afterwards we had a discussion on Greenland, climate change, and the tundra. Tomorrow I am going to teach my students how to access the PolarTrec webpage and follow along. On Monday I am planning on having students design some experiments for me to carry out in Greenland. I have already had one students ask if, "mentos in a coke will explode the same in Greenland as it does here because Greenland is so much colder." I don't know, but I am more than willing to try. Finally, I am having a bookmark making contest at my school. The winner of this contest will get their drawn picture of Greenland published on a bookmark and handed out at Joseph Beth. I am looking forward to showing the winning art piece.
