PolarTREC teacher Lollie Garay is taking part in an International scientific cruise aboard the Swedish icebreaker, Oden. About 120 students from 10 schools participated in the event. In celebration of the International Polar Day and ice sheet themed Live from IPY event was held with ice sheet researchers from around the world, including some who called in from traverses presently crossing Antarctica. Ann Linsley and a team of researchers from Texas A&M University are studying the impacts of humans on the land and in the water around McMurdo Station, Antarctica. About 10 teachers and 480 students joined the live event.

Dividing the class into Little auks and predators, students complete survival game for several seasons. After tallying up total volume of food collected, survival rates of the chicks can be graphed and analyzed.
