Comfy quarters

Sleeping on the USCGC Healy can be quiet and comfortable. This year, each bed has received a new mattress and wool blanket. Most berths are efficiently designed to hold 2-3 people with locker and desk space. The couch folds out into a third bed, if needed.

The shared head (bathroom) is located between two rooms. If you use the head, you must remember to unlock both doors on each side of the bathroom or you may block access to the head from the adjoining room. No one wants to be locked out from using the head in the middle of the night.

Because the ship desalinates water to use for showers and drinking, everyone on ship must be extra careful not to waste water. Showers are quick as hot water is ready to use.

We just received word that the repair to the starboard shaft has been fixed and that we will be under sail by Thursday afternoon. We celebrated at the famous Wednesday seafood buffet at the Grand Aleutian. What a final treat for the science party. A pescatarian delight!
