Answer to Yesterday’s WATIZIT
Congratulations to Karen Robert’s 3W class!!!! They looked through the Gallery pictures and figured out that the electrical circuit is part of the Automated Weather Stations, that we are here to work on.
Today’s WATIZIT Pictures
This inflatable structure just arrived at McMurdo. It will spend the winter here being tested. What do the scientists who designed it, think it could possibly be used for. (Hint: It is partly being developed by NASA.)

Today's Events
Today’s pictures, and short journal entry, are for Lollie. She is another PolarTREC teacher who, just this week, arrived here on the Norwegian icebreaker, the Oden. You can read her journals and see her pictures on the PolarTREC website.
The Swedish icebreaker, breaking ice, in McMurdo Sound.
Lollie boarded the icebreaker in South America about 6 weeks ago. Since she was always looking out AWAY from the Oden, I thought I would post these pictures so that she knows what it looks like when you look TOWARDS the Oden.
The Oden breaking a path through the sea ice of McMurdo Sound.
The Oden is extremely important to the science projects that are based here at McMurdo. The Swedish ship is clearing a path through the sea ice in McMurdo Sound so that two supply ships can resupply McMurdo with the equipment and fuel needed for the 1000+ people who are here during the summer and the 250 or so people who are here during the winter. Imagine that you could only drive to the store once a year.
The Oden off of McMurdo Station
Today the Oden had reached McMurdo and was working back and forth widening a channel through the frozen McMurdo Sound.
The Oden, off of Hut Point and the Transantarctic Mountains
People came out to watch as the Oden made its path through the sea ice.
The Oden off of Hut Point
The fuel used by McMurdo's helicopters, will be delivered by a ship in a couple of weeks. The tanker will follow the channel made by the Oden to deliver its load of 6 million gallons of fuel.
