This 1-hour webinar was part of the C-ISE online course being offered by PolarTREC and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The presentation theme was earth science, and discussed climate change in the arctic and how scientists are using glacial features to study arctic change. The presentation was conducted by PolarTREC Teacher, Mark Goldner, researcher Ross Powell, and Research Experience for
PolarConnect event with Mark Goldner, the Svalbard REU team, and Drs. Julie Brigham-Grette and Ross Powell working on marine and glacial science in Svalbard, Norway.
PolarConnect event with Mark Goldner and the REU students and PI's that are in Norway. Three REU students presented on their experiments. A good introduction to the research questions and the area.
Private PolarConnect Event held between PolarTREC Teacher Jim Miller, researcher Elliot Friedman, and Jim's class in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Jim and Elliot are working in Barrow, Alaska.
During Lesley Urasky’s expedition, “Glacial History in Antarctica”, the team collected rock samples which were taken back to the University of Washington to be dated using cosmogenic (exposure) dating. This method of radiometric dating measures the ratio of isotopes of Beryllium (9Be:10Be) produced by the interaction of cosmic rays with minerals in rocks. This lesson will introduce the student to
Video created by John Stone from a series of time lapse photos taken over a 26 hour time span of a tidally influenced lake at the base of Mt. Hope in Antarctica.
This PolarConnect event was held on 27 May 2011 with PolarTREC teacher, Paula Dell who presented about the biology of Antarctic Fishes and the unique Icefish. She is working at Palmer Station, Antarctica.
