This activity was prepared by David Walker (LASA High School) and Rose Cory (University of Michigan), based on work conducted at Toolik Field Station in Alaska. The purpose is to introduce students to Van Krevelen diagrams, which are used to interpret results of high resolution mass spectrometry and characterize the compound classes present in complex organic mixtures. PolarTREC teacher Lisa Seff and the "Upwelling and Ecology in the Beaufort Sea Research Team" discuss the many research projects being carried out aboard the R/V Sikuliaq. This event was broadcast live on 14 September 2017 from the research vessel located in the Beaufort Sea.
PolarTREC teacher Emily Dodson participated in a scientific expedition in the summer of 2014 at Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. Emily’s book is a telling of the science story behind the teams work and Emily’s participation as an educator and field assistant on the PolarTREC expedition.
