Polar researchers Jackie Grebmeier and Lee Cooper, joined PolarTREC teacher Deanna Wheeler in a presentation about their work in the Bering Sea. The presentation was at the Old Durham Church in Maryland.
This PolarConnect event was held on 16 August 2010, and included Keri Rodgers and members of the ITEX research team studying tundra plant changes in response to a warming climate in the arctic. The research team worked in Barrow and Atqasuk, Alaska. This event was conducted in English and Spanish, and was the first bilingual PolarConnect event.
This was a real-time event with PolarTREC teacher Casey O'Hara being broadcast from the South Pole Station, Antarctica. Casey presented on the IceCube telescope project and covered a bit about life at the South Pole station.
Students will undertake a long term project to evaluate the effectiveness of different local forecasters, match the forecast with the actual weather and analyze which forecaster is best.

This Live from IPY event was a private event held with J.C. Parks Elementary School, and other regional Maryland Schools. PolarTREC teacher, Deanna Wheeler presented along with researchers studying various components of the Bering Sea ecosystem. The audience was primarily elementary school students.
Students use data and pictures of a destroyed wind sensor, to develop a theory of what happened to the station. They then develop a plan to make sure the station is not destroyed again.
