PolarConnect event with teacher Juan Botella and the Monona Grove High School in Monona, Wisconsin. This special presentation focused on the science that is being conducted on the N.B. Palmer in the Southern Ocean and also the wildlife they have been seeing during the expedition.
This Live from IPY! event was held with PolarTREC teacher, Betsy Wilkening and University of California Davis researcher, Harry Beine who are studying the interactions between snow, atmosphere, ice sheets, and the ocean in Barrow, Alaska.
The Live from IPY event was held on May 5, 2008 with Katie Pena and the research team on the Nathanial B. Palmer Icebreaker in the Drake Passage between Chile and Antarctica. About 160 students and adults participated from about 8 different groups.
Kirk Beckendorf, along with researchers from the University of Wisconsin Madison are based at McMurdo Station, Antarctica and traveling around the continent maintaining automatic weather stations. About 300 students from about 13 states joined the event.
