Students will use marshmallows to simulate toxins in the environment. Concentrations of these toxins will be modeled and calculated as they bioaccumulate up the food chain. Methylmercury and POPs are substances that bioaccumulate in the Arctic food chain. OASIS scientists studied these in Barrow, Alaska. You can sign up to receive seeds that have either been in space or on Devon Island plus seeds that have not been exposed to harsh conditions. Students will be able to participate in a blind study to see if they can determine which seeds are the harsh environment
This website is the research website for snow and ice research in both the Arctic and Antarctic. You will also find Education links along with the latest detail in polar research.
