UndecidedWhat do you think is most like the Arctic compared to Durham, or even more specific DA?

Gerty Ward

Hello,Hmmm, interesting question. Outside, there is little to compare to Durham and DA. The landscape is beautiful yet desolate. All I have seen for the past month is water and ice, punctuated by a few birds and bears! By contrast, Durham is lush, especially in the spring! On the ship, there is a strong sense of community just like at DA. 79 of us have spent 24/7/35 together on the LSSL. After this long, it does not seem like such a big ship....The Arctic is inherently dangerous. If you fell in, it would be very difficult to pluck you out of the water which is at about 0C! Just walking around the ship requires some care. it is important that everyone take care of themselves and watch out for each other. Being out here together instills this strong bond -- there is no theft on board and we celebrate birthdays together -- similar to the community at DA.
