Hey Willy,How cold is it there?
- It is about 2 degrees C (34F).
How are you able to keep warm, why is it so cold there?
- I am able to keep warm by wearing warm clothes and jackets. It's cold
because this part of the planet doesn't get much light from the sun,
because it's tilted at an angle that doesn't allow the sun's rays to hit it.
Who is there with you?
- There are lots of scientists here and a bunch of technicians that help
the scientists do their work.
Do you often get wet?
- Not really. I'll get more wet once we start doing lots of work on deck.
Do you get seasick, if so why?
- I get a little seasick, but not too bad. It's because your body can't
deal with the motion of the boat without seeing the horizon.
What kinds of foods you do eat there?
- Dinner was grilled chicken & pineapple, beef & broccoli or veggie lo-mein.
What kind of drinks do you guys have there?
- Soda, juice, tea, coffee, and lots of water.
Are you bored at times?
- Sometimes, but not very often.
What do you do for fun?
- Watch movies and hang out.
How do you sleep?
- In a bed. :)
Is it hard to sleep?
- Nope. The waves rock you to sleep.
How do you cook?
- I don't cook. I let our amazing cook do that work.
I am very intrigued in what you are doing, why am I so intrigued?
- Not sure. You can answer that yourself.
What effects does your trip have on you?
- Ask me this when I get back and I can tell you more about how it
affected me at the end. :)
In what way does you doing this benefit our community or school?
- Hopefully, I'll learn more about polar science and you guys back at
school will too! Polar sciences is really important for understanding
climate change so it should help you guys understand why you should care
about global warming.
Why are you doing this?
- So I can learn more about how science is done and especially about the
current science in the polar regions.
How much was it to go on this trip?
- I didn't have to pay anything, but it's quite expensive to go on one
of these trips.
How many people are there on the trip?
- 70 people on board
How cold does your feet and other parts of your body when it is
considered severely cold?
- I'm not quite sure what this question means. Can you ask it again in
a different way?
What kind of things do you see?
- Well, right now if you look off the boat you can't see land in any
direction. That's pretty crazy.
What do you smell? How does it smell? Why does it smell? What do you
taste? How does it taste? Why do you taste? What do you hear? How do you
hear? Why do you hear?
- These are great questions. You should have Ms. Kenny explain them to
you. She can do a much better job in person.
How many questions have I've asked so far?
- 30
