How big were those penguins, how long would they survive without food on land?

Those penguins aren't very big, probably about 60 cm (2 ft) tall andabout 5 kg (11 lbs). They actually go out to sea every day and hunt for
food. When the penguins are little, their parents bring them food, but
as they get older, they learn to hunt for themselves.
