Ice Core Drilling in West Antarctica

Is it easier to core mud or ice?

Apologies if you already addressed this ... how did you pick the core site? What's so special about this location?

Hi Heidi,
 I too, as a lake sediment (Mud)  driller,  am interested in your answer to the question about which is easier...
I had to note the work schedule you posted... must be nice drilling 24 hrs/day in 3 shifts  ... you've got it lucky... in Siberia we had to pull 12 hr shifts with a 45 min crew transport on both ends!
