Mr. Wood,

Do you feel earth qakes or are they derowned out by the ice?

Are there any artifacts from the early antarctic expeditions?

Thank You,

Richmond Ludwick

Hello Richmond,
Great questions!  But I have to let you know that you are the first person that I have spoken with since returning from the top of Mt. Erebus!  It was fantastic walking up there and seeing the crater for the first time.  You would be surprised at how large it looks.  I will get some pictures in my journal soon.
There are very few earthquakes in Antarctica because of the ice sheet that sits on top.  But don't forget about the plate tectonics that are going on here.  And, yes there are many artifacts around.
Thanks,
Mr. Wood

Richmond,
Some of the artifacts on the mountain are pretty interesting. There is an old helicopter that had crashed on take-off that is on it's side in the snow. No one was hurt during that incident. There are also small things around such as old instrument boxes and equipment that was buried in the snow. There are many stations that are still running. They have wind generators and solar panels in place the power the weather meters. In the summer the solar panels work great with the sun being up all of the time. In the winter the wind generators make keep things running without the sun.

Cheers,
Mr. Wood
