Hi its Zachary From period 6 and I will answer Q 2. The Global temperature rise will affect everybody on the globe.

John Wood

Thanks for the answers! I'm glad to see you are following along and hopefully learning some science along the way.Keep up the good work!

Mr. Wood I(Zachary from 6th period) am back with another question. What are the average temperatures in Denali and at McMurdo?

John Wood

Good questions. I would say that the average temperature in Denali about now is around 55 degrees F. But we are most of the way through spring. McMurdo is probably around 0 degrees F right now since they are most of the way through the fall.Later,
Mr. Wood

55 degrees is hot compared to 0 degrees! WOW!!!!! I expected the temperatures to differ by (McMurdo) 0 degrees to (Denali) 25 degrees or something like that! That is very suprising to me (as you can see with the exclamation marks).

John Wood

It can get cold here in the winter, but once the sun comes up, and being so far away from any large bodies of water, this area heats up fast in the spring and summer. We are also only 64 degrees north latitude here, at McMurdo we are 77 degrees south and on the coast. It makes a big difference. Good to hear you today! Thanks,
Mr. Wood

Good point.

Hi again! I will give you my quiz question answers. 1.387 parts per million. 2.approximately 11:00. 3.I would say it would go down because if you look at the sample pictures on the May 12 journal is having the 2'oclock(AM) simply going up versus the 2'oclock going in the opposite direction.

It's because of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis works with two factors sun and carbon dioxide. Plants intake the carbon dioxide and outtake oxygen. The power source (like a battery) is the sun, so when the sun comes up photosynthesis can happen because then it has power along with (all the time) carbon dioxide.

On Thursday June 16th school will be out. Your experiment will end on Saturday June 4th, When will you be back teaching us? By the way people saying different amounts of days left in the year like 16,17,15, and 14 and I say 16. Bye!

John Wood

Thanks for asking. I plan on being back in the classroom on June 6th, if everything goes well. I am looking forward to that!Mr. Wood

That would mean you would be able to teach us for the last five modified days and four regular days not counting the end of year activities.:)

Yaaaay! I also found out what the butterflies around the room is about. By the way in homeroom lunchtime sports your homeroom probably won't make playoffs, but there is a sliver of hope. Yes a sliver!

John Wood

Thanks for the sliver update on my homeroom. How is your homeroom doing?See you soon!
Mr. Wood

My homeroom has a chance of making the playoffs (a good one) because your homeroom has not been doing well lately and they play our homeroom who apart from being destroyed by Anderson we have been hot lately. Anderson with that win over us clinched 1st place in the regular season. Then we have a choice who goes to the playoffs Walters or Wood for the one and only make up game. The standings are 1.Anderson 2.Woo 3.Wood 4.Hertzberg 5.Walters. Everyone has a game left except for Hertzberg (my homeroom) which have 2 games left. Hertzberg have the tiebreaker over you. The remaining games are Hertzberg vs. Woo, Wood vs. Anderson, and Walters vs. Hertzberg. Most likely Hertzberg gets a win over Woo and a loss to Walters. Also most likely Anderson will get a win which would put the standings 1.Anderson 2.Hertzberg 3.Woo 4.Walters 5.Wood. Only the top 4 make it into the playoffs. I also have a science question. Isn't each layer on an ice core a year not thousands? I'll keep you posted on the homeroom dodge-ball. By the way I think one of your students has a comment for you on the Oden Antarctic Expedition 06.

John Wood

Thanks and good luck to you and your homeroom. I will be talking with you soon I hope!Mr. Wood

Today there was no game. Next Thursday there will be. Possibly the makeup game (Walters vs. Hertzberg) will be before that, but games won't happen until Mr. Miller gets back from AstroCamp. Due to it being past my bed time right now I shall answer those questions tomorrow.

Anonymous

The make up game wasn't before that.:( My answers to those questions are 1. temperature and precipitation(also longitude and latitude plus plate movement) 2. different trees would be here and animals/species 3. That answer will be given tomorrow:)

Today the Hertzberg vs. Woo game was today and Hertzberg won 2-0. The answer really will happen tomorrow when your homeroom plays against the red hot Anderson(though Wood beat Anderson last time they played due to Mr. P at goalie) who have already clinched first place. With this win Hertzberg clinched second place (all in the regular season, not playoffs). The remaining games are Wood vs. Anderson and (the make up game) Hertzberg vs. Walters. If you win you are in the playoffs except Walters. Woo, Hertzberg, and Anderson all have clinched a playoff spot. Walters or Wood who will it be?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? My answer in science for that third and final question is that it is accually a desert, but when winter arrives snow comes along with water then in the summer sunlight hits them and gives them energy, but only in these times. Good luck to myself in the science test.P.S. could you give me all the answers to the test :)

John Wood

Yes I can give you the answers, when I get back! Thanks for the info, keep thinking. See you soon.Mr. Wood

Ha ha ha. I was talking about before then!!!!! Your homeroom lost today in homeroom dodgeball 3-1 to Anderson. Walters moves on if they tie or win. If they lose you get that final playoff spot. With your homeroom losing today Woo locks up the third place position in the regular season . Today we had elections and President is Patrick Crossen, First VP is Chandler Bruneli, Second VP is Jerimaiah Villamar, Secretary is Delilah DeLaCruz, Activities Commissioner is a seventh grade girl that I don't remember the name of. Walters vs. Hetzberg Monday (you can see it yourself). The playoffs will also start and end that week.

John Wood

Thanks for the news. The elections sound good. Good luck to your homeroom.See you soon,
Mr. Wood

My friends in Walters homeroom wants me to throw the game so they can be in the playoffs. I say what will happen will happen.

John Wood

You gotta do your best, and from there you're right, what will happen will happen!Have fun.

Probably my last post and a question with it. Where's the best place you've been on this expedition?

John Wood

It's a good question but I really don't think in terms of best or favorites. Being on the tundra was amazing and the dog sleds were a bunch of fun. Denali National Park was beautiful and driving to the Arctic Circle was a neat thing to do. Barrow was very interesting and running around Fairbanks was a good time. There are several highlights and more stories when I get back to class. In my journals I posted about 275 photos, but in my camera I have over 2,300 pictures! So lots to share.See you soon,
Mr. Wood

Are any of those out of Alaska, where was the roadkill moose, where was your name on the moose roadkill list?

Anonymous

I mean your neighbors and we have the biggest replies to each other ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Wood

You're right, we have a huge string of replies! The neighbors were on the top of the roadkill list at that time. What do you mean out of Alaska?Mr. Wood

I forgot. It used to have a purpose, but I do NOT remember.
