Hello, Ms. Dell (and others) this is Sydney from your Biology class. I would like to know the coldest it has gotten since you have been on the base. I saw to tempurature on your journal entries and I would like to know that little bit of info. Are you all constantly maintaining the base? What exactly allows fish in that area to live in such cold conditions?

Well, I hope you enjoy your stay down there. Have fun!

Hi Sydney,Nice to hear from you. It hasn't gotten any colder here yet than what we get in Chicago. It hasn't gone below zero. It snows frequently and is cloudy a lot but it's always beautiful. When the sun is out I can see the amazing mountains around us. There is a whole staff of really competent people who maintain the station here - power, water, lab technology, electrical, maintenance, cooking, you name it. They allow the scientists to concentrate on the science down here. The fish that live in these cold waters have anti-freeze proteins. Pretty interesting, huh? I'm having a great time.
See you in June.
