Dear Mrs. Slaybaugh,

I know that you recently took a trip to Africa before going to Antarctica. I was wondering how the environment and climate differs in each, and also, how do your experiences compare? It must be fun to be able to travel to all these places to experimentand learn about each area.       Thanks,

Hi Sara -
As they say, I am one lucky dog.  I have had the opportunity to visit six of the seven continents and each experience has been unique and amazing.
Africa and Antarctica are both so very different and yet have many similarities.  Africa is hot and has places that get very little rain.  Antarctica is where the coldest temperature in the world was recorded and there is water almost everywhere (of course it is mostly snow and ice).  Africa has oodles of different types of animals and Antarctica has a relatively small number of species.  Both are deserts and both are excellent places to study the environment and the effects that man is having on the plants and animals.
I love to travel and think that if you get the chance to go somewhere (even if it is just to the state next to yours) that you should take it.  Travel allows you to meet people and learn about that place and to also learn about yourself.  After all, life is a learning experience and why not make it a fun one.
Thanks for the really thoughtful questions and I look forward to talking to you again real soon.
