Hey Mr Gillete! Have you reached Antartica yet? If you have, have you seen any penguins yet? Let us know about you discoveries!

Hello Aaron and Kristen.  We're not quite there yet.  We're staying at a B&B in Christchurch, New Zealand, very nice little place, and a beautiful city.  I'll let you know if I see any penguins when we get to the ice.  We're scheduled to leave Friday morning. As far as the depth of ice, I'll get back to you on that.  You'll probably see a whole journal entry on that topic since that is one of the things we are trying to find out.  We're going to be drilling some holes in the ice, about 35m deep, then setting off explosive charges and waiting for a return signal.  That will not only tell us how thick the ice is, but what is underneath the ice.  Trust me, there will be more than enough information on this topic later.  Make sure to check back!
