Ancient Buried Ice in Antarctica

Hi Jackie,

Have you ever been in weather colder than what you have experienced this week in Fairbanks?

How do you plan to prepare for the cold on the ice sheet?

Hi Kristin,Although I was born in the midwest, I have only experienced weather that is a few degrees below zero.  This is definitely the coldest weather I have experienced.  
I know the NSF US Antarctic Program will provide gear for me and I will buy the recommended long underwear.  In addition, I bought some non-toxic hand and foot warmers at the Fairbanks Ice Park that worked really well and last about 8 hours. I will definitely take a stash for those extra cold times.

Hey Jackie,Don't worry about loading up too much on hand/foot warmers prior to Antarctica. They have BOXES of them in McMurdo - and you can take what you need - your team will have LOADS of them!
