Hi Peggy-

I second Kirk's message that we are sure enjoying your journals. They are GREAT! I know it is difficult keeping up, but you are doing a fabulous job :)

Will be collecting phytoplankton in near shore Maui this year and we are looking at baseline studies, just recording what is here and the collection frequency. We will be looking to see if the species changes over the year (s) with the warming/cooling of the weather/water. Has anyone done such studies in the lakes you are sampling?

Along with all the physical data you are gathering, is someone noting the presence/absence of algae/zooplankton? Is that something you could look for in the sediment cores too?

warmly,

Maggie

Along the same lines as Maggie's question, we hear about air temp increases in the Arctic, has anyone noted lake temperature changes? Although I suppose if they are primarily from snow melt there wouldn't be much change.
