It seems like just yesterday I arrived back in Franklin from the PolarTREC Orientation in Fairbanks. Three weeks ago today I was getting off the plane in Asheville NC on a very chilly, 19 degree night. It felt pretty cold after daytime highs in the 30's in Fairbanks! It was time for back to school, where it was great to see everyone and share a little about my first trip to Alaska. Currently I'm working on my teacher-researcher networking plan and am brainstorming ideas for my classroom, professional and public outreach plans. Spring fun has begun; hiking with friends, looking for signs of spring in the woods, and listening to the spring peepers and American toads trilling during a few recently warm evenings.
The kind folks at Three Eagles Outfitters here in Franklin, NC took a little time out of their preparations for the annual pilgrimage of Appalachian Trail hikers to outfit me with some personal gear for Alaska! They were generous beyond compare, providing a huge discount on some great North Face rain pants, socks, and gloves, plus donating hiking boots and long underwear. PolarTREC will be providing me with more field wear and gear, so I'm feeling pretty well taken care of for the upcoming field season.

Thanks, Three Eagles Outfitters, for the wonderful personal gear supplied for my trip!
