Day 2: Prepping for the field

Today hasn't been the most eventful, but I wanted to check in and say I’M LEAVING! Tomorrow morning, early (or by the time you're reading this, this morning!). We need to be at the airfield by 6:45am to get everything sorted for our flight, so tonight I’m just trying to do all my prep work early and go to bed. My day has been full mostly of computer work from my hotel room, and I’ve triple-checked my batteries and wrapped up a few things for OMSI, so I think I’m set to go. Pizza Hut forgot to include my marinara sauce with my breadsticks order, which was a tragedy. It turns out I’m the kind of person who will wait an hour for it to show up before I start eating. I’m hangry right now.

Anyway. I don’t know how much access to Internet I’ll have while I’m gone, but it probably will be spotty, if any at all, so you may not hear from me until the 19th. I promise to catch you up when I get back. If you want to Google where I am, we are flying out to two villages west of Denali National Park, called Nikolai and Telida. While I’m gone I’ll be riding ATVs out to permafrost monitoring station, holding community events with the villages, boating for two days on the river, and taking a bazillion photographs. I can’t wait to check in when I’m back.

In the meantime, here's a photo of the cutest diorama you can visit if you come to Fairbanks:

    XOXO Allyson
