I wanted to share the video about ice safety. If you read yesterday's post, I told you about working with Volker Neth our German-Canadian Ice engineer. Here he is in his own words describing work on the ice platform.

It was good to talk with many of you this morning... THANK YOU for your patience. As you could see with the 8 or 10 (I lost count) dropped phone calls, communication from here at the lake is very difficult. I am glad that many of you were able to hold on. If you have a question that you did not get the opportunity to ask during the web-cast, please log on to the "Ask the Team" part of this web site.

Last night was a treat! After we returned to camp from the drill rig, we looked back across the lake to watch a beautiful full moon rise over the crater rim. When we first saw it, it appeared oval due to the bending light in the earth's atmosphere.

After working on communication, and preparing for the web cast, I was getting ready to head to my balok for the night. A little before mid-night Julie came into the office to pick up a radio and told me that she could see the Northern Lights! I ran out... then ran back in to get my camera...then ran out... then ran back in because I left the memory for my camera in the computer... then ran back out... After taking a number of images (with my camera sitting in the snow) the battery gave out. I enjoyed the display as the curtains rippled and changed across the sky. When I finally returned to my balok, I found my fresh battery...so I had to look outside once again and the sky had changed and grown brighter... so out again to take more photos. I eventually went to bed a little before 1 am.
