Carousel of Arctic Life

Following the adage that a picture is worth a thousand words, this journal will share some of the richness of Arctic life. Yesterday marked our northernmost research station, and while we don't see a lot of animals above water, the ROV sends up beautiful images of life in Arctic waters.

Those photos are so clear, and the colors are so bright! Are these new species or previously identified ones? Is your team discovering new species?

I agree, Anne, these photos are gorgeous. They were taken by someone with far more skill and much better equipment than I. The organisms shown have been previously identified; however, we have found some other ctenophores and benthic jellys that likely represent new species. The diversity of life under the ice totally amazes me!
