Hi Victor. Interesting question, though I am not sure how to answer it. I
will forward your email to one of the scientists to get their opinion. I'll
get back to you as soon as possible.

I apologize for such a delay in answering your question. However, I think that the most challenging aspect was getting used to the altitude. Summit is approximately 10, 600 ft but the pressure altitude can simulate a higher altitude. The best...so many bests...but working with the researchers...{read more}
Hi Maggie. The musk ox leave the underfur, the ultimately soft hair, on bushes as they walk around. This underhair is Qiviuk and you can buy knitted products made from it. Everything was very expensive...hats, scarves, sweaters, etc. but really soft. When we were hiking around Lake Ferguson...{read more}
Yes, the musk ox are approximately buffalo sized. It is a bit hard to tell with all of their long hair. But we saw many dead musk ox with exposed skeletons and their skull would be about buffalo sized.
I just returned home on Saturday and the colors...follage, flowers and such...are...{read more}
By now you have settled in and know where everything is! I hope you are sleeping warm....don't forget to take the hot water Nalgene bottle to bed with you. It stays warm all night long and can be an asset for a good nights sleep.
I know you will have a wonderful time with folks at...{read more}
After flying into Kangerlussuag and receiving baggage, my indulgence was a hot shower. Felt sooooo good. Then the next thing was just t-shirt, jeans and tennis shoes instead of all of the cold weather gear. I will be in Kangerlussuaq for three days, flying out to Albany on Friday. I will stay...{read more}
Hi Rob. I am not sure, but I believe Barry Lefer brought the soccer ball. However, it could have been part of the camp recreation equipment. They sometimes set up volleyball, too. Many folks bring their X-C skiis and if I ever get a chance to go to Summit again, I would certainly bring my...{read more}
It was hard. The folks at Summit are terrific. Maybe everyone who goes to a remote, extreme weather location comes with a great attitude. At least the group (37 folks at Summit while I was there) I interacted with couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. So I enjoyed every moment...{read more}
Hi Kristen. I try to have a window seat on commercial airlines so I can hold my GPS at the window and I have no problem accessing satellites and gettingwaypoints/tracking points. Usually airlines allow GPS units when they also allow other electronic devices (laptop computers). But in the...{read more}
Mike just arrived at Summit today. I know he would love to have comments to his blog. He will be working with the photochemistry team but may also have a chance to be with other scientists who just got there this week.
