Jennifer Thompson
About
Jennifer Thompson has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and outdoor recreation and her experiences as a guide, commercial fisher, naturalist, and parent eventually led her to pursue a career in education. Ms. Thompson thoroughly enjoys working with young children and engaging them in the natural world. She has taught kindergarten and first grade classes in Juneau, Alaska for ten years, and is currently spending a year in Arlington, Virginia as an Einstein Fellow at the National Science Foundation. Ms. Thompson is intrigued with polar science and thankful for the opportunities she has had to interact with scientists investigating climate change, and hopes to build additional collaborative relationships through PolarTREC. Ms. Thompson has two teenagers and loves everything outdoors—skiing, hiking, biking, kayaking, rafting, climbing, boating and coastal beach walks!

Hi Barney!
I've had an amazing two weeks in Greenland. I am attempting to finish up the journal - so everyone can know that yes, indeed we did make it down from the Summit Station! Connectivity is an issue here - posting photos and/or anything beyond text is a challenge!

Thanks, Kathy! You've been a key part of the success - all our work last year led to the depth we were able to get to this year. Wow, Kirk, thanks for the question about acclimatizing to the altitude - the first day was tough! We had to take a middle of the night flight because of snow conditions. It has been very warm and sticky snow here at Summit - so we wanted the best possible conditions for landing. And I have to...{read more}
YES! We all got the opportunity for a great night's sleep! We are better rested, with some breakfast and ready to start our day! We have a full Science Day today after our tour of the Summit Station and entire area yesterday. Thanks for the post!

Thanks for the great post - yes it is very exciting and quite the adventure to share with other teachers and students. We are fully immersed in the science, logistics and now a full day of more inquiry-based investigations!
