Hi Hollis! Welcome to PolarTREC! Your first journals look great after your crash-course. I too spent time in Barrow, as a PolarTREC teacher in 2009 as part of the OASIS project. I am looking forward to following your expedition. What kind of data are you going to be gathering?

Hey, Betsy -- Thanks for the email!  I am new to studying ecology, but am excited to learn some new science and work my research muscles.  We will be researching the historical ecology of Barrow -- Basically a historical perspective of how the coastline has changed and how that has impacted the residents, then developing a model to assist risk in polar coastline areas.  We will do some mapping of the coast, gather LTK (Local and Traditional Knowledge) from elders and other residents, and study maps.  It seems from talking with Anne that much of the work is undetermined simply because we don't know what the information we gather in the beginning will yield.

I did a quick read about the OASIS project in Barrow that you were a part of -- that seems like it was an excellent trip!  As a seasoned PolarTrec participant, do you have any advice for me as I prepare to head up to Barrow?  Thanks for following the trip so far.

Hollis
