After we drill the holes, Perry checks each one by sending a camera down to see what they look like. Attached to his camera, he's got a cardboard disk with some feelers on it. The cardboard/feeler assembly has a diameter of 9 inches when the feelers are fully extended.

    I thought it might be fun to share some of the video so I edited this together. It's footage from the very first ARA hole. This is also the first hole that's ever been drilled this way - where water was pumped out while the hole was being created with hot water. Because this is such a new thing, each ARA hole will get better and better as the technique is perfected.
