The report is written by teacher participants upon return from their field expedition portion of the PolarTREC program. It summarizes the benefit of the expedition to the teacher, a description of activities, and a summary of how teachers plan to link this experience in classrooms and communities. This is a public document that will be posted in teacher portfolios and
Free community viewing of Taking Earth's Temperature -Delving Into Earth's Past followed by Q & A w/contributor Dr. Jason Briner. Organized by PolarTREC teacher, Tina Ciarametaro in her home community after her expedition to Greenland. Learn more here about the documentary Taking Earth's Temperature.
News release letter for Tina Ciarametaro's expedition to Greenland to study shrinking arctic icecaps. The release explains the upcoming expedition, PolarTREC's goals/objectives and how to follow the expedition.
Students will conduct a demonstration that will help them gain a better understanding of the water cycle and runoff in a watershed. They will be able to replicate arctic and non-arctic watersheds by varying the size of the watershed. They will be able to visualize the difference in runoff by creating hydrographs of these different locations.
Students will investigate the breadth and depth of science taking place in the Polar Regions by reading and learning about one PolarTREC expedition and sharing it with the class.
Objectives
* To expose students to the wide variety of science happening in the Polar Regions
* To help students understand the process of science by examining one
This one hour webinar is conducted by PolarTREC alumni Missy Holzer. She highlighted her work with the High Arctic Change expedition 2008 and bringing inquiry-based science into her classroom. This webinar is part of the C-ISE online professional development course.
This website is produced by the geological mapping programme GEOKART of the Norwegian Polar Institute. We want to provide information for geologists working or interested in the Norwegian polar areas, with emphasis on Svalbard (Spitsbergen).
We want to inform about: NPI's geological programmes, activities, services and products, logistic requirements and working conditions in polar areas, ongoing activities, and basic scientific
This geologic time calculator allows the user to manipulate the relativism of time to other markers. It builds from the classic analogy for illustrating the relative durations of parts of the geologic time scale is the yardstick.
