In this activity, students will use IB-style data-based questions centered around graphs made from data collected about arctic ground squirrels by researchers at Toolik Field Station in northern Alaska. Activity levels of ground squirrels are analyzed in relation to solar radiation and ambient temperature. Students work individually or in pairs to answer the questions.
In this activity, students will use data collected about two male arctic ground squirrels by researchers at Toolik Field Station in northern Alaska. Each squirrel had a lightlogger to record light intensity (lux) and an implanted data logger to record internal body temperature (°C). Students work individually or in pairs to analyze the data sets and interpret the results
Students in cooperative teams will use a spreadsheet and graphing program such as Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel to graph and evaluate a large data set. The data sets provided come from authentic arctic ground squirrel research completed at Toolik Research station in arctic Alaska. The data sets were downloaded from body temperature loggers implanted into individual animals

The report is written by teacher participants upon return from their field expedition portion of the PolarTREC program. It summarizes the benefit of the expedition to the teacher, a description of activities, and a summary of how teachers plan to link this experience in classrooms and communities. This is a public document that will be posted in teacher portfolios and
This one hour webinar is a great look at the PolarTREC 2014 Arctic expeditions. Each teacher presents a little about the research projects, implementation in the classroom, and outreach into communities.
This is a one hour webinar hosted by PolarTREC teacher Andre Wille at Toolik Field Station, Alaska. The work presented is part of the Arctic Ground Squirrel Study 2014.
Note: Due to technical difficulties, there is not a Wimba archive for this event. A PDF of the slides and accompanying audio file are available.
This event with PolarTREC Teacher, Tom Harten, and the seabird ecology team led by PI, Dan Roby, covered the research being conducted on Black-Legged Kittiwakes and Thick-Billed Murres in the Pribilof Islands in the Bering
This Live from IPY! event was held on 24 November 2008 with Cameo Slaybaugh and the SCINI Team and Robin Ellwood and the ENDURANCE Team--both conducting research in Antarctica using underwater robotics.
