This resource is a 2-minute immersive video that takes students inside the Permafrost Research Tunnel outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. It includes footage of both the new and old sections of the tunnel.
Objectives
Through watching this video, students will get to see what permafrost looks like from the inside, identifying typical features geological features (ex. ice wedges). Through the
Working at Terra Nova, Antarctica. This is the Italian Base where PolarTREC teacher Brian Dubay and his team continued their study of the Transantarctic Mountains.
Cape Washington Emperor Penguin Rookery. Once the team landed, what transpired over the next 45 minutes cannot be told but can only be shown. Check out this amazing view of the Emperor Penguins of Antarctica.
The IceCube Neutrino Observatory is currently under construction in Antarctica, and will help scientists search for elusive neutrinos that can help us map out the universe in new and exciting ways. I will be traveling to the South Pole this November and December to participate in this project, and report back to classrooms across the US. This stop-motion animated video
