About

Rebecca Himschoot is an elementary science specialist at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School in Sitka, AK, where she has taught for 11 years. Research shows students enter school thinking “scientifically,” and Rebecca considers it an honor to assist the 400 2-5 grade students at her school in refining their inquiry practices. With a BA from the University of Alaska Southeast and a Master’s of Education from Gonzaga University, Rebecca has extended her professional learning through experiences such as NOAA’s Teacher at Sea and the National Park Service’s Teacher to Ranger to Teacher Program. A committed Alaskan, Rebecca enjoys hiking, time on the water, and especially dark winters spent with good books. Rebecca is looking forward to her PolarTREC expedition to Toolik Station as an opportunity to help students in Alaska better understand the rapid changes in the Arctic climate.
