Weddell Seals in the Ross Sea

This is Julia again - how DO you pronounce "Weddell" anyway? Accent on the first or second syllable? I've heard it both ways!

Hi Julia,
I have to smile at that question - as I had the same difficulty. I've heard it both ways and pronounced it both ways. But since the team affectionately refers to the seals as Wedds most of the time - I generally put the emphasis on the first syllable. However both are correct.
