I can't wait to see your pictures. You mention the bugs and wearing bug pants and shirt as well as 24 hours of daylight. Are you using bug spray with the clothes? What's the weather like in general at this time? Do you need a light jacket? Is there snow in town or around you? It sounds so exciting. Can't wait to hear more.

Yes, there are 24 hours of daylight (at least until August 2nd) but it is generally overcast. It is really, really cold and windy. The winds blow off of the Arctic Ocean. There is only one patch of snow next to a snow fence.Today was my first day in the field and here's what I wore:
Upper: long sleeve outdoor polyester t-shirt, polartec jacket, Marmot winter jacket (needs a hood)
Head: neck gator, hat
Lower: capilene pants, fleece pants, dual layer wind pants
Feet: two pair Smart Wool socks, muckracker rubber boots.
I don't think I'll be wearing my bug clothes in Barrow because it's too cold and windy; but I hear Atqasuk has a gazillion to the nth power of mosquitos. At least Jeremy says that is a scientifically accurate proven statement about the mosquitoes there.
