Tundra Plants in a Changing Climate

Ok Keri, totally jealous of all you have seen so far. Fantastic pic of the bears. I wish you well in your journey, so do all bears hibernate in the winter....or is that in certain latitudes only? I am not much of a bear expert. I was just wondering if you have to worry about bears in the winter or all they all asleep....your polartrec buddy michael lampert

Michael,I'm not sure if all bears hibernate. Up here, in Barrow, we do carry a 12 gauge Remington open barrel shot gun when we are in the field just in case there is a bear. However, nobody on my research team has ever seen a bear while working in the field. The bears we may see are polar bears and possibly grizzly bears. In Katmai, I saw brown bears...and they were soooooooo cool! Thanks for your question!
