Hi, Gerty,

I particularly loved your 8/12 posting and pictures.  The landscape is so spectacularly desolate and beautiful, and I appreciated your description of the quiet. I know that while you are out on the ice you are busy working and it is very cold; however, have you had any opportunity just to pause for a while and take in this very different world?

Marty,Being on the ice is quite special and I am pleased that you were able to begin to appreciate the sensation through words and pictures. Yes, it can be cold; however, we are dressed in Mustang suits which are extremely warm -- so warm that some chose to wear less. And working on the ice can generate quite a sweat! After finishing and packing up, we can certainly take the time to appreciate the surroundings. Often by the end of the day, fog is rolling in, supper and a warm shower are waiting, so we happily head back to the ship. Thanks for following along.
