Hey Gerty, Will you reach far enough north so there is effectively no night time darkness or is it already too late in the year? If it does get dark, have you seen the northern lights?

By the way, Jamie's excited to be in your advisory!

getting ready for our Florence departure on the 23rd,     jim salzman

p.s. If you only had 30 minutes of Olympics television time on the ship, which event would you watch?

Hello Jim,
1) Since I have been on the LSSL, the sun has not set. Determining whenit will set is dictated by our position over time. You can follow ourtrack here: http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shipposition.phtml?call=CGBN. While I believe that the sun will dip below the horizon sometime beforewe reach Kugluktuk on 21 August, though I am not sure whether we will havedarkness. The Navy has a nice site for calculating sun rise, set, twilight and darkness by latitude, I will post the URL when we getinternet again, sometime in the next several days.
2)Right now we have NO TV so the question is moot. We are slowlytraveling south and should receive the TV signal before internet! Trackand field are always fun to watch.
3)I am looking forward to seeing Jamie in advisory at school and wish youall the best in Florence!
Gerty
