Just a quick note to say hello.  We just got back from our big trip up north and I had my first chance to check your journal.  Sounds like an amazing experience, and I can't wait to talk to you when you're back.  I'm going to show it to Jack -- he thought it was cool that we crossed the 45th parallel in Michigan - I think your trip will humble him!

Enjoy the rest of the trip, and I'll see you when you're back,

Hello Gib,
Thank you for checking in! Please tell Jack that I did not cross the
Arctic Circle until 3 weeks ago, so he has lots of time!
Also his drift bottle was tossed into the Arctic Ocean at 83N, 150W, about 420 miles from the geographic North Pole. A good picture is in my Aug 5 Journal.
He can also follow our ship track here:

See you soon,
Gerty

Thanks for the info - we'll check that out.  I'm in a tech training class right now, cheating by sending you a message.  Also, you missed Jerry's blood borne pathogens lecture this morning.  Wanna trade places?!
 Stay warm,

Hey Gib:
Just to close the loop, there was an old X-Files episode about blood-borne pathogens at a lab up in the Arctic -- we watched it before Gerty left as part of her "preparation."  Pretty sure it has been quite a bit tamer up there than anything we saw on that show.  Maybe you can recommed that Jerry screen it for the faculty next year.
