how do you know when its safe to walk on the ice-jobilynn jcparks elementary

That is a great question.  We rely on the Eskimo guides around here to judge when it is safe to be on the ice and to be on the lookout for polar bears.  The day we were on the ice our guide, Roy, picked a hole into the ice with an ice pick.  I have a picture labeled "Thin Ice" of the hole that Roy dug into the ice.  I also videotaped him doing it, so I'll see if I get a chance to post it out there.
