Hi Jim!I just read your journal and loved it! I can't believe how expensive everything is there. Why did the grad student think the plants weren't photosynthesizing during the whole 24 hours of daylight? You mentioned something about radiation changing, but I didn't understand what you meant. It's a really cool finding and I'd love to learn more!
As for the word of the day, my guess is: "Where's the bathroom?"
Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading more journals!
Sincerely,
Michelle Brown

Hi Michelle, thanks for your question! Yes, the levels of radiation the plants use for photosynethesis changes throughout the day, even though there is 24 hours of sun. These radiation levels almost dip down to 0 each day, showing that there is very little photosynthesis occuring at that time. Personally, I assumed that since there was 24 hours of sun/radiation, that plants would be doing photopsynthesis 24 hours a day.Great guess, you are right!
If you have any other questions, let me know!
Thanks!
Jim

-40F is the same as -40C. I learned that when I was in Barrow because the wind chill reached -40. I also learned that the students get a snow day in Barrow when the air temp, not the wind chill, is -50F. They lost track of all of the snow days they had in
