Michelle Brown

Hello Hill Country Middle School!Tyler: Yes, I am loving the cold weather, and that is especially because
it is not too cold yet. Today it was hovering around freezing (32
degrees Fahrenheit). I might change my mind when I'm at the South Pole
and AGO sites, which will be much colder.
Alexis E: Great question! The Ob Tube wasn't too cold. It was actually
warmer than the air above the ground because I was out of the wind. The
sea water temperature is 28 degrees Fahrenheit, which is often warmer
than the air temperature during the summer, and definitely warmer than
the air temperature during the winter.
Keaton: People here are very friendly! When I arrived from the plane and
Terra Bus, Bob and Andy (who I'll work with at the AGO site in
mid-December) greeted me at the bus and even gave me a present! My
birthday was also wonderful--my research team here decorated my lab
space, got me a birthday cake, sang to me, and even gave me presents!
Neha: Having 24 hours of sunlight is definitely strange! Luckily our
dorm rooms are dark so I sleep pretty well. When I'm out at the AGO site
in mid-December, I'll be in a tent and will probably have a more
difficult time sleeping.
Thank you all for the great questions!
Sincerely,
Ms. Brown

Samm:Hi! Cool about the fire house dont the fir men have ways so the gear does not freeze?Joy: Hey Ms. Brown! I have a question about "Turtle Rock". If seals live there why is called turtle rock do more turtles live there??
Today it just me and Samm today the others left early. Sorry.
MRS.KEHRBERG IS AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Polar Club really misses you:(

Michelle Brown

Hello Polar Club!! I miss you all!Hi Samm, great question about the gear not freezing. The firemen do
insulate their trucks so their water and equipment doesn't freeze, but I
don't believe their gear is specialized.
Hi Joy! Great question about the name of turtle rock. The rock looks
like the back of a turtle from a distance, so I believe that is why it
is turtle rock. I will check and find out though.
Glad to hear polar clug and Ms. Kehrberg are doing well!!
Sincerely,
Ms. Brown
