Good to hear from you guys have a great spring break next week.Bus 142 on the Stampede Trail got there by accident. In 1961 a road (now the Stampede Trail) was being built from Lignite (north of Healy) to an antimony mine on Stampede Creek. A heavy duty mechanic Jess Mariner employed by Yutan Construction (company building the road) bought two of the buses from the City of Fairbanks. He brought his family with him out on the construction site and they lived in one bus (142) and had a kitchen in the other. They had them towed from work area to work area. Apparently when they were having them towed at the end of the construction season back along the road #142 broke an axle. They decided to leave it where it currently is to serve as a shelter for hunters, travelers along the road (now trail). http://www.stampedetrail.info/history.php
