Wow! It looks like your class is doing some really fun things Jillian! We are jealous of the 60 degree weather, it is snowing again here. :(

I was wondering if you will be bringing your water testing kit with you to Alaska when you come? If you have layovers in Anchorage or Dutch Harbor you could look at freshwater there.

Hi my name is Ricky Campbell one of Jillian's students at new start middle school. I think she should take her science kit with her on the boat. Then we can test the waters and see how they are different and the same. Like testing for e-coli, or the turbitity. thank you for writing to us.

Hi Derek,
Thanks for writing back to me, and I apologize for not having a quicker reply! Here at ARCUS, we are busily getting ready for a big meeting in Washington D.C. next week! It will be webcast from the internet if you are interested in hearing the scientists talk--anyone can watch online. :)
To answer your question, when I was in college here in Fairbanks I did do some water testing. We were not testing for ecoli, but we were looking at the movement of the water and oxygen levels. It was a lot of fun and I loved getting inthe water with hip waders! I always find it fascinating to compare the oxygen levels to the water temperature--did your class compare those things?
In Alaska it is spring and we are really excited after the long winter! Right now it is 50 degrees and sunny! We are all getting ready for summer and ready to plant our vegetable gardens!
