What happens to the cores you bring on board the ship? After the reseachers are done with them?

Once the cores come on board, they are extracted. This basically means some are put into other tubes to be saved, some are cut into small sections, and others are sieved to see what organisms are living in the sediment.
The researchers keep the sections to be tested later when they get back on land. Plus some of the extra mud is just tossed off the ship.

Thanks for the question
