Hi Rob, Good to see it is above zero up in Barrow! Summer is in full force here in Fairbanks, It has been in the 70's all week and even hit 80 a couple times. It has been pretty dry up until last night and this morning when we got some rain.

p>So, what is that instrument you are holding in the pictures? Does it tell you more than temperature and windchill?

Kristin....the weather instrument I am holding is a Kestrel 3000.  I got it several years ago when I started teaching environmental science.  I thought it would be good to have while I am here.  The measures temperature, wind speed (current, average, and max), windchill, relative humidity, heat index, and dew point.   Wow!....70's and 80's and you seem so close to us up here.  Just shows how much influence the cold Arctic Ocean has on the climate here in barrow.
