Hello,  I was wondering what the explosives were for in some of your pictures in your photo galleries.  My guess is that they were going to be used for blowing up the ice in order to do studies on it, but i was curious.

The explosives are used to send shockwaves through the ice to help give us a profile of what the subsurface of the ice looks like.  If we know what the bed looks like under the ice we can start to determine how the ice moves.  This is extremely important when looking things like sea level rise.
