We’re going on a seal search!

When the team and I start our work on the ice, one important thing we have to do is to search for and find Weddell seals. Now, I am challenging YOU to go on your own search for Weddell seals and Emperor penguins (stuffed ones, that is), which are located in various places throughout the Pink Palace Museum in Memphis, Tennessee.

Can you find the Emperor penguin in this picture?

How can you join the search?

    • The Pink Palace Museum has put together a FREE scavenger hunt with seals and penguins in various locations throughout the Natural History and Cultural History exhibits.
    • Come to the museum now through May 2016. The Pink Palace is located at 3050 Central Ave. in Memphis.
    • Pick up a scavenger hunt challenge flyer from the ticketing desk. The flyer is your data-recording sheet, where you will identify the seals and penguins you find.
    • Make sure you bring a pen or pencil, so you can fill in the codes identifying the seals and penguins you find on your flyer.
    • Then, you are ready to start your search!

How can you find the seals and penguins?

Each Weddell seal and Emperor penguin is placed in a different area throughout the museum’s exhibits. When you find one, locate the “fun fact” card. This will be posted somewhere near the animal. Read the fun fact and write the code on your scavenger hunt flyer. This code is our version of ID tags placed on Weddell seals and Emperor penguins to keep track of the animals over time.

This is an example of the fun fact card with the scavenger hunt code.

In this scavenger hunt, you are looking for five Weddell seals and five Emperor penguins. Once you have found them all – and written down the identification codes – bring your flyer to the Museum Store to claim your prize.

Hope you have fun searching and enjoy the challenge!
