For the majority of the working world hump day is Wednesday, half way through another work week. For the rest it varies depending on their work schedule. For the folks on the N B Palmer it was Feb. 21^st 2014. The mid-point in our 46 day cruise to East Antarctica from Hobart, Tasmania.

Celebrating the midpoint of the cruise.

Everyone has been working really hard and putting in long hours. As I mentioned in a previous journal it takes a lot of people working around the clock to operate such a major expedition. But as my Mom used to say "All work and no play makes John a very dull boy" Any way I think the guy was John. So it was time for us get together and have some fun.

Amy Westman, Marine lab tech and official social coordinator quickly arranged our first tournament, a bean bag toss in the helicopter hangar. I now know why we don't have a helicopter on board. So we can have a place for tournaments! The trash talk has been rampant and there is a lot of talk that Ronnie is the one to beat.

The winds are sustained at 40+knots which delayed our deployments and making it extra challenging to calculate where to land the bag. Stay tuned if you want to find out who wins.

As with any job there needs to be time to get together and talk, poke fun and decompress. It makes for better communication and a better work environment. I am hoping for a new tournament each week as we continue our last 3 weeks of work. Looks like ping pong is next!

Thanks again to Amy for coordinating the tournament
