Preparing the greens for the winter-over time

    Temperature: - 28 C, - 18.4 F Windchill: -28 C, -18.4 F Wind: 0.0 in the morning Weather: Clear and sunny with a few high clouds

It was beautiful Sunday. There was no wind in the morning and it was great for outside activities. Most people had the day off and recharged by skiing, playing out door Frisbee, in door soccer, doing laundry or just reading a book. I caught up with writing, mailing and emails.   However, I also visited the green house again. I pass it by every day ! It is great just going inside and smell all the greens and feel the moist air.

She is from Main and studied horticulture after some years of military service. The plans here grow in a water system that is controlled by a computer. Monique has many volunteers helping her.

During the summer time we: receive a lot "freshies”, fresh vegetables and fruits from New Zealand. The green house is being used during the summer season to plant for the winter season at the South Pole. However, we often could taste fresh greens, cucumbers , peppers, and herbs in our salad!

**Basil at the South Pole * Fresh Basil is particular tasty here at the South Pole

**Cucumber harvest ** Other plants had already larger cucumbers.

**Cucumber harvest *Monique is harvesting the cucumbers: 11 pounds! This was great news for the kitchen! Thank you Monique and good luck! Monique would like to go back to school in Colorado next season.
