My Expedition Ended, But My Journey Continues!

This school year is flying by! I have been sharing my experience with my students and community since my return and one thing I've noticed is how many new opportunities that being a part of the PolarTREC family opens for me. Recently, I was selected as a National Center for Science Education (NCSE) Teacher Ambassador. My cohort focuses on empowering educators to explicitly teach climate change in a non-confrontational way. NCSE has given me permission to create and share a lesson based on their 5 lesson unit on turning misinformation into education opportunities with an Arctic emphasis. I'm looking for data that can be used for students to make connections between climate change and the rapid changes in the Arctic ecosystem. I can't wait to test run and upload this resource for you! I'll also continue to use my PolarTREC journal and social media outlets to share how I am combining my polar experience with my new role as an NCSE Teacher Ambassador.

Hi Melissa,Thanks for sharing this recent journal and letting us know what you are doing! I can't believe it was one year ago that you were in Alaska. Starting this Sunday, we have a new group of educators starting their learning journey! It's so exciting! I love that you are a NCSE Ambassador! Your contribution to humanity is not just being in PolarTREC or being an NCSE ambassador -- your contribution is that you are an amazing teacher and everyday you are impacting someone's life. That's incredible and something to be proud of. Thanks for all you do and I can't wait to see where this next journey takes you.
